To the Editor of the Newbury Weekly News
Sir,- The day after my letter referring to Mr. Staples appeared in your columns I received one from Mr. Plenty Senr., in which, after courteously thanking me for my suggestion relative to a memorial stone to be raised to the veteran's memory, he informed me that he should “esteem it a privilege to erect one at his own cost to the memory of so faithful a servant.” Such an action needs no poor comment of mine and will, I doubt not, be appreciated by his fellow townsmen.
I am sir, yours faithfully,
M.STUART-HALL
