Charles was born in Newbury he was the son of John and Hannah Hall (nee Head) who were married on the 23rd July 1808 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (both were single). John was born c1788 in Newbury and was a Builder/Bricklayer, Hannah was born c1787.
In 1815 John (28), Hannah (29) and their children, Maria (6), Hannah (5), Eliza (3), Ann (2) and Charles (1) were living in Perris’s Yard (east side of Northbrook Street) Newbury.
In 1816 their son Charles died aged 2 he was buried on the 21st June at St Nicolas Newbury.
John and Hannah had another son born c1823 who they also named Charles, a daughter Mary born c1825 and a son Robert born 1827.
In 1824 Ann died aged 11 she was buried on the 1st March at St Nicolas Newbury.
Hannah died aged 40 in 1827 just after giving birth to her son Robert. Robert only lived for 11 days both were buried on the 29th January at St Nicolas Newbury.
John remarried less than four months later, his 2nd wife was Ann Hyne, the marriage took place on the 7th May 1827 at St Mary the Virgin Speen. Ann died aged 27 in 1831 she was laid to rest on the 14th January at St Nicolas Newbury.
John married again on the 5th May 1831 at St Nicolas Church Newbury his 3rd wife was Winifred Walter. John and Winifred had two sons and a daughter, James born c1832, Adolphus born c1836 and Amelia born c1834.
In 1837 John became a widower for the third time, Winifred died aged 26 in 1837 she was laid to rest (as Winifred Amelia) on the 6th February at St Nicolas Newbury.
John married for the fourth time on the 6th June 1838 at St Nicolas Church Newbury his 4th wife was Ann Vince. The marriage was not a long one, sadly Ann died aged 24 seven months later, she was laid to rest on the 11th January 1839 at St Nicolas Newbury..
John had married for the 5th time by 1841 his 5th wife was also named Ann (born c1815 in Greenham).
The 1841 records John (50), Bricklayer, Ann (28), Charles (15), Mary (15), James (9), Amelia (7) and Adolphus (5) living Northcroft Lane Newbury.
Like his father, Charles was also a Builder/Bricklayer, he married Mary Jane Wilkins on the 9th April 1850 in Baydon Wiltshire and they had the following children (all born in Newbury):

Mary Jane also gave birth to a stillborn child in 1859 this child was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th April
The family lived in Newbury, Harding’s Yard (1851), Staples Yard (1861) and Northcroft Lane (1871).
Charles died aged 51 on the 4th April 1874 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April. (The Newbury Weekly News obituary for Charles has mistakenly recorded his age at death as 61))
Mary Jane (55) and her daughter Alice (15) were living in Northcroft Lane in 1881. By 1891 they had moved to Prospect Villa Gloucester Road. The 1901 census records Mary (76) as a visitor at 28 St Mary’s Butts Reading. She died on the 22nd June 1905 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading and was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th June.
