John Dibley
1799-1874
John was born on the 19th December 1799, he was baptised on the 14th February 1800 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Dibley (nee Lidiard) who were married at St Nicolas Church on the 13th October 1786.
John’s father Charles was born c1759 he died aged 78 in 1837 and was buried at St Nicolas Newbury on the 26th June. His mother Elizabeth was born c1764 she died aged 82 in 1846 and was buried at St Nicolas Newbury on the 15th July.
John married Winifred Gough at St Nicolas Church Newbury on the 23rd May 1826. (Winifred was born on the 22nd January 1804, she was baptised on the 12th February at St Nicolas Church Newbury Berkshire the daughter of John and Mary Gough (nee Triggs) who were married on the 19th October 1798 at St Nicolas Church Newbury).
John and Winifred had the following children (All baptisms at St Nicolas Church Newbury, father recorded as a Labourer:
Elizabeth, baptised 9th July 1828, John baptised 4th June 1830 (died aged 2 weeks, buried on the 9th June 1830), Sarah Ann born c1832, John baptised 5th April 1834 (died aged 16 months, buried on the 30th May 1835), Charles baptised 25th November 1836, George baptised 6th April 1841 (died aged 9 months, buried on the 12th January 1842) and Frederick baptised 30th June 1844 (died aged 3, buried on the 16th October 1847)
(Winifred also had a son William Gough before she married John. William was baptised on the 30th March 1823 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, his father was recorded on the baptism record as Samuel Dibley).
In 1841 Winifred (30), Eliza (16), Sarah (7), Charles (4) and George (0) were living in Newtown Road, Newbury.
The 1851 census records John (53) (no occupation recorded for John) and Winifred (47) (recorded as Winney) living in Old Newtown Road, Newbury. (surname recorded as Debley on ancestry)
Winifred died in 1860 (age at death recorded as 59), she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd September. (Funeral service held at St John the Evangelist Newbury)
The 1861 census records John (66) as a Straw Dealer, living in the City, Newbury. He died aged 81 on the 10th February 1874 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th February. (Funeral service held at St Nicolas Newbury)
