Henry Deacon and Martha Deacon
c1792-1879 c1793-1873
Henry was baptised on the 5th August 1792 at Christchurch, Swindon, Wiltshire, the son of James and Mary Deacon (nee Williams) who were married on the 21" March 1791 at Christchurch with St Mary Swindon.
Henry married Martha Hollidge on the 17th February 1820 at Christchurch with St Mary, Swindon, Wiltshire.
They had the following three children baptised in Swindon:
James 16th December 1821
Henry 7th September 1823
Thomas 14th August 1825
By 1828 the family had moved to Newbury, Berkshire.
Henry and Martha had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:
Mary Ann 9th January 1828
William 16th September 1829
George 4th March 1832
Robert 22nd October1833
Henry was recorded as a Currier on the baptisms in both Swindon and Newbury and the 1841 census.
The 1851 census records him as a Journeyman Currier.
By 1861 he was working as a Baker.
In 1841 Henry (45), Martha (45) and their sons Thomas (15) a Male Servant, William (12) and Robert (7) were living in Northbrook Street, Newbury. (Surname recorded as Deason on ancestry)
The 1851 census records Henry (59) as a Journeyman Currier, living in Jack of Newbury Street, Newbury with Martha (58). (Surname again recorded as Deason in the census for this year)
In 1861 Henry (68) and Martha (67), were again recorded living in Jack of Newbury Street, Newbury.
The 1871 census records Henry (78) and Martha (77) living in Church Almshouses, Newbury.
Martha died aged 79 in 1873, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th December
Henry died aged 86 on the 26th April 1879, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd May.
