Edwin Frank Backwith
1847-1873
Edwin Frank was born in Gravesend Kent, the son of Parker Thomas and Sophia (aka Apphia) Backwith (nee Battershill) who were married in 1838 in Edmonton Middlesex.
His mother Sophia was baptised on the 15th August 1817 in Oakhampton Devon the daughter of William and Mahella Batershall (nee Sampson) who were married on the 3rd October 1816 at St Olave, Exeter, Devon (surname recorded as Battershill)
His father Parker Thomas was a Shell Dealer, he was baptised on the 19th August 1818 in Deal, Kent, the son of Stephen and Mary Beckwith (nee Attersoll) who were married on the 23rd February 1808 in Deal, Kent.
Parker Thomas and Sophia also had the following children:

George 1844 (died aged 1, buried 5th December 1845 at St Peter & St Paul Milton next Gravesend as George Beckwith)

Anne 1851 (died aged 10 months, buried 9th May 1852 at St Peter and St Paul, Milton next Gravesend)
In 1851 Edwin (4) (recorded as Frank) was living at 77 Windmill Street, Gravesend, Kent with his mother Sophia (a Dealer in Toys) and his siblings, Emily (12), Elizabeth (10), Henry (8), William (2) and a servant Susan Edwards (18).
His mother Sophia died aged 34 in 1853, she was buried on the 19th May at St Peter and St Paul, Milton next Gravesend.
His father Parker Thomas Backwith died aged 36 in 1854, he was buried on the 20th July at St Peter and St Paul, Milton next Gravesend.
Edwin does not seem to have been recorded in the 1861 and 1871 census records.
According to his probate record Edwin was a Butcher and lived in Stepney Middlesex.
Edwin died aged 26 on the 25th June 1873, at the home of his married sister Elizabeth Sophia Howe and her husband Thomas, in Northbrook Street, Newbury, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th June.
Probate: Effects under £100 4 November. The Will of Edwin Frank Backwith late of Stepney in the County of Middlesex Butcher who died 25 June 1873 at Newbury in the County of Berks was proved at the Principal Registry by Thomas Howe of Newbury Photographer the sole Executor.
