The Late Rev. Richard Shelley, who departed this life the 18th inst. at 22 Northbrook-street, Newbury, was a native of Lewes, Sussex, and was educated at the Presbyterian College, Carmarthen. He came to Newbury in 1857, and began his ministry at the Presbyterian Chapel in this town.
While here, about six years, besides zealously performing his ministerial duties, he a showed a considerable interest in the Literary and other local institutions. Removing to Cranbrook, in Kent, he had a severe attack of illness, from which, it seems, he never fully recovered. After about three years, he became the minister of the Unitarian congregation, Great Yarmouth, and continued to reside there until his health, about a year ago, so declined that he was obliged to leave, seek a change at Hastings and Lewes, and in August he returned to Newbury with health completely shattered, and resided here until his demise, which we now deeply regret to have to record.
His funeral took place yesterday at the Cemetery in this town, the Rev. C. Matthews officiating. We may add that Mr. Matthews purposes making allusion to his deceased predecessor on Sunday next, at both morning and evening services.
