Transciption: | HENRY CHARLES COUNT DEATH OF MR. H.C. COUNT A FORTY YEARS’ RESIDENT
The death of Mr. Henry Charles Count, which took place last (Wednesday) evening, removes one who had been a resident and trader in Newbury for forty years. He was born in the Eastern Counties, and succeeded to the business of hatter and hosier on the Bridge carried on by Mr. F. H. Marychurch, which he developed into a high-class establishment. Three years ago last November he had a serious paralytic seizure, and since then has been an invalid, for the last year or so being confined to his house. Mr. Count was a man of high principles, but of a very retiring disposition, and disinclined to take any leading share in public life. His love for the Parish Church, however, induced him to undertake the duties of parish warden, which he discharged in a very conscientious manner, keeping the accounts and looking after finances with business capacity. He was secretary of the Church schools and a trustee of various charities. A man of punctilious habits, always correctly dressed, his coming and going were as regular as the church clock. Courteous and painstaking in business, kindly in manner, he enjoyed the kind regard of many friends. He was a bachelor, and lived with his sister at “Reresby”, Porchester-road.

THE LATE MR. H.C. COUNT SERVICE AT NEWBURY PARISH CHURCH
The Rector, the Rev. L.R. Majendie made reference on Sunday at the Parish Church to the faithful services rendered to the Church by the late Mr. H.C. Cout, whose death we recorded in our last issue. He had been a regular and courteous Churchwarden, and a strong supporter of the Church Schools, of which for many years he acted as honorary treasurer.
The funeral took place on Monday, the first part of the service being held in the Parish Church. It was attended by many townspeople and members of the congregation….. Newbury Weekly News 10 April 1924 |
