Rosa Allder
1871-1872
Rosa and her twin brother Ralph were born in November 1871 at West Street, Newbury, Berkshire, the children of James and Sarah Allder (nee Thatcher) who were married in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury).
Rosa died in 1872, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd October 1872.
(Rosa’s burial record records her age at death as 11 weeks. She was 11 months old at the time of her death)
Rosa’s family:
Her father James was a Sawyer, he was born c1828 in Newbury, the son of James and Mary Allder (nee Preston) who were married in 1820 in Winterbourne Berkshire.
Her mother Sarah was born c1835 in Donnington Berkshire the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Thatcher (nee Challis) who were married on the 22nd March 1828 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
James and Sarah also had the following children:
James 1854
Henry 1856 (died aged 4 months in 1856, buried 15th August at St Mary the Virgin Speen)
George 1857 (died in 1857, buried 20th December at St Mary the Virgin Speen)
Elizabeth Ann 1859
Thomas 1861
Henry c1863
Mary Ann Eliza 1865
Ralph 1866 (died aged 1 in 1867buried in Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th September 1867).
Rosa 1869 (died aged 6 months, buried in the NRC on the 16th March 1870)
The family were recorded living at 19 Waterloo Place, Newbury in 1861 and 1871 and Mill Lane, Bruton, Somerset in 1881.
In 1891 Sarah and her son Ralph were living at 2 Siddib Cottages, Newbury. James was lodging in Salisbury Road, Savernake, Wiltshire.
The 1901 census records James, Sarah and Ralph living at 2 Siddib Cottages, Newbury.
Sarah died aged 64 in 1902, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th March
Sometime after Sarah’s death James moved to 12 Church Almshouses, Newbury. He died aged 69 in 1908 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th July.
