Robert Adams
1808-1872
Robert was a Shoemaker /Cordwainer. He was born on the 16th January 1808 and was baptised on the 24th January 1808 in Farnborough Berkshire the son of William and Sarah Adams (nee Munday) who were married on the 21st October 1806 at All Saints, Farnborough, Berkshire.
He married Martha Ball on the 28th June 1829 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire.
(Martha was baptised in 1808 in Burghclere, Hampshire, the daughter of Elizabeth Ball).
Robert and Martha had the following children:
Andrew baptised 11th October 1829
Sarah Ann baptised 18th September 1831
Elizabeth baptised 14th July 1833
David baptised 1st May 1836
Eliza Jane born 1840
The 1841 census records the family living in the City, Newbury.
The 1851 census records Robert (44), Martha (44), their daughter Eliza (11) and a visitor, Mary Draper (7), living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
The 1861 and 1871 census records record Robert and Martha living in the City, Newbury.
Robert died aged 64 in 1872, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th July.
The 1881 census records Martha (74) as a Charwoman, living in the City Newbury. Her grandson Harry Adams (24) a General Labourer was recorded living with her.
Martha died aged 87 in 1895, she was buried on the 6th June in Thatcham, Berkshire.
