Jesse Draper
c1825-1871
Jesse was born c1825 in Easterton Wiltshire. He was baptised on the 19th April 1825 at Market Lavington Wiltshire and was the son of Thomas & Sarah Draper (nee Clelford) who were married on the 13th May 1818 at Market Lavington. At the time of Jesse’s baptism the family were living in Easterton and his father was working as a Shoemaker.
Jesse’s siblings were:
Samuel c1819 Rhoda c1821 David c1823 Benjamin c1827 Joseph c1829 Enos c1833 Elizabeth c1835
Jesse was a Sadler& Harness Maker. He married Harriet Messenger in Newbury in 1849 and they had the following children:
Charles Thomas c1850 Jane c1851 Jesse 1854 Lucy c1856 Frederick Messenger c1861 Harriet Elizabeth 1862 William Barnes c1864 Mary Messenger 1865
Harriet also gave birth to 3 stillborn children who were buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the following dates: 29th August 1857, 12th October 1858 and 30th November 1859
In 1851 Jesse, Harriet and their daughter Jane were living in Pleasant Place Newbury. By 1861the family had moved to Purdue’s Yard (off Bartholomew Street) and by 1871 they had moved to Cheap Street Newbury.
Jesse Draper died aged 46 in 1871 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th September 1871.
His widow Harriet and his children, William Barnes and Harriet Elizabeth were also buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery.
