Mildred was born in Wansford, Northamptonshire, she was baptised on the 2nd January 1815, at St Mary the Virgin, Wansford, the daughter of John and Sarah Glithero (nee Shelton) who were married on the 16th June 1794, in Thornhaugh, Northamptonshire.

John and Sarah also had the following children:

Christopher, baptised 25th December 1794, in Thornhaugh

Charlotte, baptised 2nd October 1796 in Thornhaugh

Mary, baptised 19th May 1799 in Thornhaugh

Thomas, baptised 4th January 1801, in Thornhaugh

Sarah, baptised 28th November, privately baptised 12th December 1802, in Thornhaugh

Henry, baptised 9th June 1805, in Thornhaugh

John, baptised 6th September 1807, in Thornhaugh

Sophia, baptised 17th June 1810, at St Mary the Virgin, Wansford.

 

Mildred married in 1839

Marriage details:

Bride: Mildred Glithero, full age, spinster, occupation, Shopkeeper, abode, Wansford,

Groom’s father, James Glithero. Bride’s father, John Glithero, both were Stonemasons

Witnesses: Thomas Glithero and Elizabeth Glithero

(Richard was baptised on the 28th March 1819, at St Mary Magdalene, Yarwell, Northamptionshire, the son of James (a Mason) and Hannah Glithero (nee Hospital) who were married on the 9th December 1805, at St Mary Magdalene, Yarwell)

Richard and Mildred had the following children (all born in Wansford):

Lavinia, 1840, baptised 19th April 1840, in Wansford

William, born 1841

Claudius, born 1842

James, born c1844 (died aged 18 months, buried 11th July 1845, in Wansford)

Edward, born 1846

George Thomas, born 1848 (died aged 6 months in 1849, buried 24th May, at St Mary Wansford)

Emily, born 1850, baptised 26th May 1850 (died aged 5 in 1855, buried 31st January, at St Mary Wansford)

The 1841 census records Richard (23), a Stonemason, living in Wansford, with Mildred (26), Lavinia (1), an Elizabeth Glithero (10) and a John Glithero (8).

Mildred was widowed in 1849, Richard died aged 31, he was buried on the 9th December, at St Mary, Wansford.

The 1851 census records Mildred (36) as a Grocer, living in Wansford, with her children, Claudius (9), Edward (4) and Emily (1).

Mildred remarried in 1856. Her 2nd husband was Henry Adams (marriage registered in Newbury)

(Henry was a Timber Hewer. He was baptised on the 18th July 1820, in Bucklebury, Berkshire, the son of George and Elizabeth Adams (nee Winterbourne) who were married in 1817 in Bucklebury, Berkshire)

The 1861 census records Henry (40), Mildred (46) and Edward Glithero (14), a Timber Hewer, living in Wansford.

By 1871 Mildred (55) and Henry (50) were living in Greenham Street, Greenham, Berkshire.

Mildred died aged 56, on the 23rd May 1871, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th May.

 

Henry after Mildred’s death:

Henry “remarried” (no marriage record found yet!) between 1871 and 1881

The 1881 census records Henry (61), living in Greenham Street, with his 2nd “wife”, Amelia (53).

(Amelia was baptised on the 23rd December 1827, at Llangattock Vibon Avel, Monmouth, Wales, the daughter of William (a Labourer) and Sarah Kerrard)

In 1891 Henry (70), now retired, was still living in Greenham Street, with Amelia (62).  His nephew, Isaac Adams (4) and a boarder were also recorded living with them.

By 1901, Henry (80) was living on his own means, in Boundary Road, Newbury, with Amelia (72), Amelia’s widowed sister, Jemima Bradley (65) and his nephew, Isaac Adams (14)

Henry was widowed again in 1903. Amelia died aged 74, on the 17th October, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th October.

Henry died aged 86, on the 31st December 1906. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd January 1907 with his 2nd wife Amelia.
