Mary Ann, her parents, siblings and early life:
Mary Ann was baptised on the 13th February 1831, (surname mistakenly recorded as Mumford) at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, the daughter of William and Sarah Mountford (nee Dore) who were married on the 27th May 1824, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire.
Her father William was born on the 18th February 1799. He was baptised on the 3rd March 1799, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Frances Mountford. Willam Mountford died aged 61, in 1861, he was buried as William Mumford, on the 13th October, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen
Mary Ann’s mother Sarah was baptised on the 27th April 1800, in Speen Berkshire, the daughter of David and Mary Dore (nee Lader) who were married on the 31st October 1792, at St Mary the Virgin Speen. Sarah died aged 79 in 1879, she was buried on the 8th May, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen

In 1841 Mary (10) was recorded living in Stockcross, Berkshire, with her father William (40) a Labourer, her mother Sarah (40) and her siblings, Elizabeth (15), George (14), Martha (12), Eliza (8), Sarah (5), Charles (3) and William (1 month).
Mary (20) was working as a Labourer, in 1851. She was still living in Stockcross with her father William (51), a Brick Maker, her mother Sarah (50), a Labourer, her sister Sarah (14) and her brothers George (23), a Labourer, Charles (12) and William (10).

(David was baptised on the 2nd April 1829, in Kingsclere, Hampshire, the son of Richard (a Labourer) and Mary Stratton, of Ecchinswell. Richard Stratton and Mary Cooper were married on the 30th September 1826, in Deane, Southhampton).

Sarah Cecil, born c1864, in Speen, baptised 1st May 1864 at St Nicolas, Newbury
Frederick William, born c1866, in Newbury, baptised 1st April 1866, at St Nicolas, Newbury (died aged 44, in 1910, buried in the NRC on the 18th May)
The 1861 census records David (31), a Sawyer and Mary (30), a Schoolmistress, living at Corner House, Ecchinswell, Hampshire.
The 1871 census records David (41), a Labourer (mistakenly recorded as Daniel), Mary (40), Fanny (12), Sarah (7) (as Sara C.) and Frederick (5), (as Frederek Wm) living in Newbury. (Surname recorded as Shatton, in familysearch.org and Shattow on ancestry)
Mary Ann died aged 39, in 1871. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th May
David after Mary’s death:
The 1881 census records David (52), as a Sawyer, living at 8, Prince’s Place, Newbury, Berkshire, with his daughter Sarah (17) and his son Frederick (15), a Printer’s Apprentice.
In 1891 David (61), a General Labourer, was living in Fore Street, Honiton, Devon with his widowed daughter Fanny Mount (32) a Dressmaker and his granddaughter Lizzie Mount (8).
(In 1881 Fanny (22) was working as a Domestic Servant at Burghclere Farm House, Burghclere, Hampshire. Also recorded on the census was Algernon C. Talbot (22). On the 7th December 1882, Fanny gave birth to a daughter, Lizzie, in Charlestown, Cornwall. Lizzie was baptised on the 3rd August 1883, at Holy Trinity, Chelsea, Middlesex. Both parents recorded. This couple didn’t marry. Algernon Talbot married someone else in 1886. In 1891 Fanny and her daughter Lizzie are recorded with the surname Mount. No marriage found! Lizzie’s birth was recorded as Lizzie Stratton in the March quarter 1883, in St Austell, no mother’s maiden name recorded. Fanny Stratton died ages 33, in 1892, in Devon. David died aged 67 on the 11th January 1897. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th January.
Frederick William died aged 44, on the 13th May 1910, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th May
Sarah Cecil Stratton (recorded as Sarah Cecily) died aged 65, on the 1st June 1929. She was laid to rest in Shaw Cemetery, Newbury on the 6th June. Abode at time of death, 6 Kimber’s Almshouses, Newbury.
