Transciption: | WILLIAM THOMAS LAWRENCE THE LATE MR. LAWRENCE We have to record today the decease of Mr. Lawrence, who was best known to the public as being assistant clerk to the Justices at the Borough and County Bench, which position he appears to have occupied for many years. Through his connection with the office of Messrs. Godwin and Son, Mr. Lawrence held other public appointments, all of which he filled with a conscientiousness and integrity which gained for him general esteem. Mr. Lawrence was also treasurer of the local association of the Baptist Missionary Society, and was accustomed until lately to preach in the villages of the neighbourhood. He lived in Newbury nearly 45 years, and was, we believe, one of the oldest members of the Baptist Church in this town, the pastor of which has announced that he will improve [sic] the death of the deceased on Sunday evening next.
