Harriet Few
c1793-1870
Harriet Cripps was born in Kintbury Berkshire. She married George Few (born c1782) on the 27th January 1825 in Kintbury. George was a Maltster.
George and Harriet had the following children (all baptised in Kintbury):
Matilda baptised 6th March 1827 (died in 1833 buried on the 14th March at St Mary’s Kintbury)
Harriet baptised 8h February 1829
Lavinia baptised 24th October 1830
Thomas baptised 1st September 1833
Henry born c1836 in Newbury
George died aged 57 in 1839 he was buried on the 1st November at St Nicolas Newbury.
The 1841 census records Harriet (40), working as a Charwoman, living in Bartholomew Street Newbury with her children, Harriet (12), Lavinia (10), Thomas (7) and Henry (5).
The 1851 census records Harriet (58) as a Charwoman, living in Dibley’s Yard Newbury with her children, Harriet (22), recorded as a Dressmaker, Lavinia (20), recorded as a Housemaid, Thomas (18), recorded as an Agricultural Labourer and Henry (15), recorded as an Errand Boy.
The 1861 census records Harriet (67), as a Housekeeper living in Bartholomew Street, only her youngest child, Henry (aged 25, recorded as a Shoemaker) was living with her at this time. (Ancestry has mistakenly recorded the surname as Tew)
Harriet died aged 77 on the 22nd September 1870 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th September.
