Solomon Tuck
1868-1870
Solomon was born In Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Solomon and Harriet Tuck (nee Read) who were married on the 2nd October 1872 in Binsted, Southampton, Hampshire.
Solomon died aged 18 months, in 1870, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th June.
Solomon’s family:
His father Solomon and his twin sister Mary Ann were baptised on the 25th September 1833, the children of John and Mary Tuck. John was recorded as a Lodging House Keeper on the baptism record. (Mary Ann died aged 10 weeks, she was buried on the 16th December 1833 at St Nicolas Newbury)
His mother Harriet was born in 1843 in West Tytherley, Hampshire, the daughter of William and Mary Anne Read (nee Dawkins) who were married on the 2nd December 1841 in West Tytherley, Hampshire. She married John Cook on the 18th October 1860 in West Tytherley and they had a daughter, Mary Jane Cook, born c1864, baptised 3rd July 1864, in Mottisfont, Hampshire. By 1866 John and Harriet were no longer together. Harriet had formed a relationship with Solomon Tuck.
Solomon’s siblings were:
Edward George born 1866 in Reading
Alice Elizabeth born 1871 in Newbury
Louisa Frances born 1873 in Newbury
In 1861 Solomon’s father Solomon was recorded as a Blacksmith.
The 1871 census records him as a Traveller (Ironman), living in the City, Newbury, with Harriet (30), their children Mary (6), Edward (4), Alice (3 months) and Solomon’s nephew Mark Tuck (8) (son of his brother Mark and his wife Margaret Tuck).
Harriet and Solomon married on the 2nd October 1872, in Binsted Southampton. (Harriet, using her maiden name)
Harriet died aged 40 on the 20th May 1880, at Percy Place, Newbury, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th May.
Solomon died aged 48 on the 23rd November 1886 in the Reading, he was buried in on the 25th November at the London Road Cemetery, Reading.
