The articles below contain information about John Chivers.
John Chivers ( 1805-1870) John was born in Ashbury in 1805.
He married Mary Ann Ballard ,who had been born in Scotland, in Wantage in 1837.
By 1841 .They were living on Northbrook Street, Newbury, and had two children Henry 3, and James 1. John was described a porter as was another resident of the house, George Chivers aged 20.
In 1851 they were still living in Northbrook Street, and had two children Harry 13 and James 11 both born in Newbury. He was working as a porter.
On the 1861 census he was a coin porter living in Packers Yard, West Street. James was still living at home employed as an agricultural labourer. There was now a daughter, Martha, aged 11yr. John died in 1870.
