Transciption: | THOMAS COCKAYNE The upper servants at Sandleford Priory attended the funeral; most of them had been fellow servants of the deceased for upwards of twenty years. The liberal wages allowed Mr. Cockayne, had enabled him to secure a competency for his old age, but Mr. Charteris continued to pay him up to the time of his death, although he had for a long time been unable to follow his employment. Berkshire Chronicle Saturday 24 October 1868 Newbury Weekly News Oct 13 at East Fields, Newbury, Thomas Cockayne, for 33 years stud groom to William Chatteris, Esq., of Sandleford Priory, aged 89 years, much respected.
