Elizabeth Owen
1850-1941
Elizabeth, her parents, siblings and early life:
Elizabeth was born on the 22nd May 1850, in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of George and Jemima Stillman (nee Twitchen/Twitchen) who were married on the 3rd March 1849 in Speenhamland, Berkshire.
Elizabeth’s father George was baptised on the 23rd July 1817 in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of James and Elizabeth (Betsey) Stillman (nee Grubb) who were married on the 4th June 1799 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. George died aged 62, on the 10th July 1879, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th July.
Her mother Jemima was baptised on the 20th May 1830 in Micheldever, Hampshire, the daughter of Richard (a Farmer) and Caroline Twitchen (nee Kersley) of West Stratton, who were married on the 17th October 1809 in Micheldever. Jemima died aged 75 on the 21st April 1903 in Great Marlow.
George and Jemima also had the following children:

The 1851 census records Elizabeth, aged 10 months, living in the Market Place, Newbury, with her father George (33) a Carpenter and Inn Keeper and her mother Jemima (20). Also recorded in the household was a nephew, William Walker (12) and a house servant, Ellen Blackford (18).
In 1861 George (44) a Journeyman Carpenter, Jemima (31), Elizabeth (10), George (9), Caroline (8) and Sarah (6) were living in Wash Road, Newbury.
The 1871 census records Elizabeth (20) as a Scullery Maid at Newtown House, Newtown, Hampshire, the home of Edward Arbuthnot (76), a Justice of the Peace for Hampshire.

(John was born in Newtown, Hampshire, he was baptised on the 9th August 1850 in Newtown, the son of John (a Bricklayer) and Clara Selina Owen (nee Batten) who were married in 1846 (marriage registered in Newbury))
John and Elizabeth had the following children:

In 1881 John (30), Elizabeth (30) and their children, Ada (5), Ann (4), John (2) and an aunt, Maria Twitchen (60) were recorded living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury.
John died aged 39 in 1890, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th February.
The 1891 census records Elizabeth (40) as a Charwoman, living at 7 Northbrook Place, Newbury, with her children, Olive (15), Alice (9), Selina (80, Mabel (6) and Florence (3).
In 1901 Elizabeth (50) was recorded living at 5 Brighton Terrace, Newbury with her daughters, Olive (25), a Schoolteacher’s Assistant, Flora (13) and a lodger.
The 1911 census records Elizabeth (60), Alice (29) and Lena (Selina) (28), both Elementary School Teachers, living at “Caerleon” Kingsbridge Road, Newbury.
The 1939 Register records Elizabeth as Incapacitated, living at 63 Bartholomew Street, Newbury with her daughters Alice and Lena.
Elizabeth died aged 90, on the 21st April 1941, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th April with her parents George Stillman (buried 1879) and Jemima Stillman (buried 1903)
