Martha Jane Webb

She was born in 1859 in Poplar, London,  where her parents John Parr, Bricklayer, and Harriett, nee Corderoy, were married on 29 August 1858. Both her father and mother came from  families of bricklayers in Greenham. Still in London in 1861 with her parents, her brother William Parr was born in 1860. By 1871, aged 12 years, she was living with her grandmother Sarah Cope - previously married to William Corderoy - and her step-grandfather James Cope, Publican of the Furze Bush, East Woodhay. Before he died in 1852, her grandfather William Corderoy was the Licensed Victualler of the Elephant & Castle Inn, Market Place, Newbury. 

In 1880 she married Charles Tom Webb, a Bricklayer, in Newbury and they settled in Greenham. Their only son, Tom Harris Webb, was born in 1881 and by 1891 they had moved to Albert Cottages and then to The Lock House, Greenham, in 1901.

In 1881 her parents and siblings had moved to Newbury and later her father John Parr became the Innkeeper of The Steamer, 16 Cheap Street. For more family information, refer to the record of Charles Tom Webb.

She died at ‘Nairi’, Station Road, Thatcham, on 22 March 1941 aged 83 years and was buried on 25 March 1941 in the same plot as her husband Charles Tom Webb and his father Charles Webb.

Her father John Parr died on 15 March 1922 aged 82 years and was buried on 23 March 1922 in the same plot as his son-in-law Albert Henry Veale who died on 23 January 1912 aged 44 years and later his daughter Charlotte Veale who died on 4 April 1946 aged 82 years. (Mrs. P. Ref. LNX page 113).
