Thomas William Guy
1864-1940
Thomas William was born in 1864 in Reading Berkshire, the son of William (a Railway Carriage Fitter) and Sarah Dawson Guy (nee Richards) who were married on the 29th January 1854 at St John, Paddington.
William and Sarah also had the following children:
Eliza 1854 in Kensington area (died soon after birth in 1855 in Kensington area)
William 1856 in Kensington area (died aged 2 in 1859 in Kensington area)
Matilda Sarah 1859 in Kensington area (died aged 5 in 1865 in Reading)
Emily Maria 1862 in Kensington area
Julia Matilda 1867 in Reading (died aged 2 in 1869 in Reading)
Ellen Agnes 1869 in Reading
Gertrude Eliza 1872 in Reading
Mary Hannah c1876 in Reading
George John 1878 in Reading
In 1871 Thomas (6) was living at 15 Garrard Steet, Reading, Berkshire, with his parents and siblings Emily (8) and Ellen (1)

(Alice’s birth was registered as Alice Ann, she was baptised Alice Maude Mary on the 21st July 1861 in Southbroom with Bishops Canning, Wiltshire, the daughter of George (a Shoemaker) and Anne Oakford (nee Gay) who were married on the 21st October 1854 at Southbroom in the Chapel of St James, Wiltshire (as George Edward and Ann).
Alice and Thomas had the following children:
Florence Gertrude 1885 in Winchester
Emily Dalson 1887 in Shrivenham
Edith Agnes 1889 in Shrivenham (died aged 19 in 1908, buried in the NRC on the 7th November)
William Thomas c1892 in Devizes (aka Thomas William)
Ellen Beatrice c1895 in Compton Berkshire
May Ethel c1898 in Moreton Berkshire
Ernest George 1901 in Faringdon
Like his father Thomas worked for the Railway. He was recorded as a Railway Goods Checker in 1891, a Railway Porter Forman in 1901 and a Railway Shunter in 1911.
The family were recorded living at 22 Wharf Hill, Winchester Hampshire in 1891, Lechlade Road, Faringdon, Berkshire in 1901 and Jubilee Road Newbury, Berkshire in 1911.
The 1921 census records Alice, Thomas, their children William, Ellen, May and Ernest, their daughter-in-law Elsie (wife of William) and their grandson Arthur, living in Jubilee Road, Newbury.
Alice Maude Mary Guy died aged 73 in 1934, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th September
The 1939 register records Thomas as Retire Railway Servant, living in Rotherstone, Devizes, Wiltshire.
Thomas William Guy died aged 75 in 1940 in Devizes District Hospital, his body was brought to Newbury and he as laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th May.
