Transciption: | JOHN WILLIAM ROSLING “… We were informed of the death of the Borough Education Secretary Mr. J.W. Rosling, a very well-known person in his field but probably more widely known as the first librarian to have been appointed to Newbury Carnegie library (opened in 1905 on the site of the former old workhouse near St. Mary's Hill) and in that capacity officiated in the selection and ordering of several thousand books from which readers could choose to read, but to their chagrin having to rely on his particular taste. In 1937 he was succeeded as Education Secretary by Mr. R. Swingler.”
