Ada Samuels (1883 – 1920)
Ada Samuels (1883 – 1920)
Ada Samuels was born in 1883 in Greenham. Her parents were William Samuels and Lucy Ann Messenger who had married on 11 September 1869 at St John in Newbury.
Ada was recorded living with her parents and five siblings in Stroud Green in the 1891 census. Her father William was a railway labourer while Ada was a scholar.
There was a report in the Newbury Weekly News of 10 August 1899 that Ada and her sister Edith were bridesmaids at the wedding of their brother Henry at Burghclere. They were both dressed in white and carried baskets of flowers.
In the 1901 census Ada was recorded with her parents and sisters Edith and Ellen living at 7 Poplar Cottages, Jubilee Road in Newbury. Her father was a railway packer while Ada was a dressmaker.
Ten years later in the 1911 census Ada was recorded with her parents and niece Violet Lindsay Samuels aged 2 (daughter of her sister Emma) still living at 7 Poplar Cottages. Her father was now a railway plate layer while Ada was still a dressmaker.
Ada died in December 1920 aged 37 still living at 7 Poplar Cottages. She was buried on 29 December 1920 at Newtown Road Cemetery.
Emma’s parents were buried at Newtown Road Cemetery, her father William on 9 September 1921 and her mother Lucy Ann on 11 January 1924. Her sister Emma Samuels was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 4 September 1912.
Ada Samuels was the daughter of William and Lucy Ann Samuels.
Her occupation was a dressmaker and she lived at 7 popular cottages jubilee road. She died in 1920 aged 37
