Miss SYLVIA HICKS

The death took place in the Hospital on November 15th of Sylvia Ellen, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hicks, of Gloucester-road.  She had undergone an operation for appendicitis, and was recovering therefrom, when a relapse occurred during the night, and in the early hours of the morning the sad news of her death was communicated to her parents.  She was a bright, vivacious girl, and cut off at the age of 18, was a source of great sorrow to many personal friends as well as those of her parents.  This was evidenced at the funeral on Thursday, when a large and sympathetic congregation attended the service in the Primitive Methodist Church.  The officiating ministers were the Revs. Percy Jackson and A.B. Gowers.

The mourners were Mr. A.J. Hicks (father), Miss Winifred Hicks (sister), Mr. F. Hicks (uncle), Mr. W.S. Wildsmith, Mrs. T.B. Kendal, Mrs. A. anting, Mr. E.B. Panting.  Deceased had been in the services of Messrs Hickman and Metcalf, and Mr. Stanley Hickman attended on behalf of the firm.

There then follows a long list of names of those who made floral tributes.

The undertakers were Messrs. A.J. Chivers, of Cheap-street.  At the service on Friday and again on Sunday, the following music was played by the organist (Mr. Charles Griffin): “I know that my Redeemer liveth” (Handel), “But the Lord is mindful” (Mendelssohn) and “Angels ever bright and fair” (Handel).
