Transciption: | JOHN WILLIAM ALLEE WICKHAM The late Mr. J.W. Alee, whose death took place at the residence of his son, Mr. E. Charles Allee, at East Hanney, on June 17th, was the oldest and best known figure in the district. The deceased had resided in the locality for a great number of years and held the office of Postmaster of the Wickham Office for many years. He was a shrewd business man with an instinctive passion for dealing, not confining himself to any particular branch of the dealer's profession, but always taking a hand when anything was going in which he concluded there was money was to be made. Although he had gained the great age of 85 years, he only ceased attending the local markets a comparatively short time ago. The funeral took place on June 22nd in Newbury Cemetery in the burial plot in which his wife laid. The burial service was read by the Rev. C.V. Pike, Pastor of the Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a life-long member. The coffin was of polished elm with brass furniture.
The mourners were Mr. W.H. Allee (son), Mr. E.C. Allee(son), Mrs. W.B. Pocock (daughter), Miss Allee (sister), Mrs. W.R. Allee (daughter-in-law), Mr. J. W. Allee (grandson), Mr. J.R.C. Allee (grandson), Mr. W.F. Pocock (grandson), Miss Allee (granddaughter), Mrs. C. Cann (granddaughter), Mr. Norman Allee (grandson), Mr. G. Brown (brother-in-law), Miss Nye, Mr. and Mrs Gilbert (niece and nephew), Mr. C. Cann, Mr. S. North, Mr. E.R. Prismall.
Not being aware of the request that no flowers should be sent, a beautiful wreath was sent by Mr and Mrs T Randall.
