Henry Headley Osborne

Henry, his parents, siblings and early life:

Henry was born in Tysoe, Warwickshire, the son of William and Julietta Osborne (nee Turner) who were married on the 29th August 1842 at St Nicholas Warwick.

His father William was a Blacksmith, he was baptised on the 14th January 1816 in Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, the son of John (a Shoemaker) and Mary Osborne.

His mother Juletta was baptised on the 27th August 1820 in Tysoe, (recorded as Lysee on ancestry) Warwickshire, the daughter of Richard (a Carpenter) and Ann Turner.

William and Julietta also had the following children:

John Turner Orsborn 1842

Alfred Orsborn 1843

Ann c1846 (died aged 6 in 1852)

Amelia Osborne 1850 (died aged 0 in 1851)

Willy Calab Osborne 1852 (aka William Caleb)

Hedley Turner Orsborne/Orsbourne 1856 (died aged 2 in 1858 as Headley Orsborne)

 

The 1861 census records Henry (2) living in Tysoe, Warwickshire, with his mother Juliet (41), a Seamstress and his brother William Caleb (8).

In 1871 Henry’s father William (50) was recorded as a widower, living in Calthrope Street, Neithop, Banbury, Oxfordshire. He was working as a Peddler. Julietta (51) was recorded as married, she was working as a Seamstress and was living in Church Tysoe, with her sons William (19) and Hedley (12) (Henry Hedley)

The 1881 census records Juliette (61) living at 84 Church Tysoe, Warwickshire. The occupation column records (Husband Left). (No record for William found in this census)

Julietta died aged 64 in 1884 in Warwickshire.

William died aged 77 in 1888 in Banbury Oxfordshire

Henry in later life:

Henry Hedley married Ellen Thornitt in c1878 (marriage registered in Chipping Norton)

(Ellen was born in c1857 in Little Compton Warwickshire the daughter of Ambrose and Anne Thornitt (nee Fletcher) who were married in 1850 (marriage registered in Chipping Norton)

Henry and Ellen had the following children (all born in Warwckshire except Kathleen):

Margaret Ethel 1883

William Ambrose 1886

Gertrude Helen c1889

Kathleen Thornitt 1896 in Newbury

In 1881 Henry (22) was recorded as a General Shop Keeper, living in Long Compton, Warwickshire with Ellen (24) and their daughter Annie (2).

In 1891 Henry (32) was recorded as a Political Agent, he was still living in Long Compton with Ellen (34) and their children Harold (10), Margaret (8), William (5) and Gertrude (2).

The 1901 census records Henry (42) a Secretary, (at what looks like Brick Works) living at 1, St Mary’s Villas, Newbury, with Ellen (44) and their children Ambrose (15), Gertrude (12) and Kathleen (4).

In 1911 Henry (52) (recorded as Hedley) was working as an Agent for the Rural League and was living at 6 St Mary’s Place, London Road, Newbury with Ellen (54), their Ambrose (25) a Gas Works Assistant, their daughter Kathleen (14) and their grandson Leonard (5) (son of Ambrose)

Henry Headley died aged 61 in 1920, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th April.
