THE LATE MRS. EGGLETON
The death of Mary Jane, widow of the late Mr. John Eggleton, removes one who was a native of the borough, in which she has lived for the lengthened period of 81 years. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. Henry Millicent, an old servant employed in the fellmongery of Messrs. Fielder.
The funeral took place on Wednesday, the 10th inst., the first portion of the service, in which the Revs. Percy Jackson and A.B. Gowers took part, being held in the Primitive Methodist Church, with which she had been connected throughout life. Tow hymns were sung, “Give me the wings of faith to rise,” and “There is a land of pure delight.” The body was borne out of the church to the strains of the “Dead March in Saul.” Mrs. Slater being at the organ.
The mourners included: William, Harry, Bert, Jim and Gus (sons), Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Ball (daughters), Mr. Stevens (son-in-law), Mrs. W. Eggleton, Mrs. J. Eggleton, Mrs. Gus Eggleton (daughters-in-law), Nurse DDomons, Mrs. Hiett, Misses M. Houston, Miss D. Ball, Mr. H. Ball (grandchildren), Pte. Dennis etc.
Floral offerings were from Will and family, Harry and family, Bert and family, Jim and Bessie, Gus and family, Toll and family, Jennie and family, Elsie and Baby Joan, Mrs. Lipscombe and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maiden, Miss Willis, members of the Primitive Methodist Women's Own.
The interment took place at the Newtown Road, where, as also at the church, many of her old friends assembled.
A memorial service was held at the Primitive Methodist Church on Sunday morning.
