JOHN MALACHI HAZELL
The death of John Malachi Hazell, at the age of 62, is a reminder of the prominent part he used to play in beating the bounds. It was he who undertook all the unpleasant duties of wading ditches, swimming streams, climbing obstacles, and generally going where nobody else was inclined to go. He was the official “beater” and carried out his duties with zest and energy.

The funeral took place on October 15th, the first part of the service at the Parish Church, the interment at Newbury Cemetery, the Rev. L. R. Majendie officiating. The mourners were the son, daughters, brother, sons-in-law, grandson. A number of floral tributes were contributed.
