THE LATE MR. PINSENT
The funeral of the late Mr. Gilbert Pinsent, of "Sans Sousi", Craven-road, retired farmer, took place at the Old Cemetery, Newtown-road, on Tuesday afternoon. The first part of the service was conducted by the Rev. J.W. Harford, in the presence of relatives and friends at "Sans Sousi". From thence the remains, enclosed in an English elm polished coffin, with solid brass furniture and shield breast, inscribed "Gilbert Pinsent, died May 10th, 1918, aged 78 years", were conveyed in the glass car followed by his two daughters and sister, to the Cemetery. Mrs. Pinsent, was unable to be present at the cemetery, and his only son is at present resident in Buenos Aires, South America. This interment was taken by the Rev. J.W. Harford.
Among others at the cemetery were Mrs. H.J.Midwinter, Miss E. Midwinter, Mrs Smith, Miss Midwinter, Miss Nash, Mr. E.Attewell, etc. Several wreaths and floral offerings were sent from, his sorrowing Wife and family; Dillie and her girls; Harry and Maud;A Friend.
All arrangements were in the hands of Messrs Alfred Jackson & Co., Undertakers, Newbury.
Mr Pinsent was a Devonshire man, having been born in the parish of Haller, March 2nd 1840. He was educated at the Ashburton Grammar School. For many years his father rented a farm under Lord Clifford of Usbrook, Chudleigh, to which he succeeded at his father's death. In the year 1887 he removed to Scrope Farm, near Hungerford, and continued in this neighbourhood, settling down in Newbury after having retired from business. He was a strong Nonconformist, and a staunch Liberal He leaves a widow, two daughters, and a son who is now residing in Buenos Aires, South America.
