Charlotte Atkins
1877-1917
Charlotte was born in Chieveley, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Harriet Atkins (nee Painter) who were married in Chieveley in 1876.
Her father Charles was born in North Heath, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 19th October 1834 in Winterbourne, Berkshire the son of Joseph and Charlotte Atkins (nee Cook) who were married in 1820 in Winterbourne. Charles served as a Private in the 6th Foot Regiment, prior to his marriage (Pension dated 27th April 1875)
Charlotte’s mother Harriet was baptised in 1846 in Chieveley, Berkshire, the daughter of Daniel and Lucy Painter (nee Smith) who were married in 1827 in Chieveley.
Charles and Harriet also had the following children born in Chieveley:

Arthur born 1879
Harriet born 1882
The 1881 census records Charles (45) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Green Lane, Chieveley, with Harriet (35) and their children, Charles (3) and Arthur (2).
Charlotte’s mother Harriet died aged 36 in 1882, she was buried on the 14th March at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley
Her father Charles died aged 47 in 1883, he was buried on the 14th February at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley.
Charlotte’s sister Harriet died aged 1 on the 5th March 1883, in the Newbury Workhouse, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th March.
Charlotte’s brother Arthur died aged 4 on the 4th July 1883, in the Newbury Workhouse, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th July.
The 1891 census records Charlotte (13) as an Inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.
In 1901 she was working as a Domestic Servant and was a boarder at Alma Cottage, Speen, Berkshire.
The 1911 census records Charlotte (33) as an Inmate in the Newbury Workhouse, working as a General Hospital Ward Maid.
She died aged 40 in 1917, in the Newbury Infirmary and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.
