Timothy Carew Skene Owen
1857-1917
Timothy was born in Enfield, London, he was baptised on the 15th November 1857 at St Andrew, Enfield, the son of Arthur Smith and Mary Jane Spry Owen (nee Pridham) who were married on the 25th September 1849 in Stoke Damerel, Devon.
Timothy’s father Arthur was born c1818 in Tiverton, Devon, the son of George Welsh and Mary Lewis Owen (nee Wood) who were married on the 2nd November 1805 in Tiverton.
His mother Mary was baptised on the 28th March 1825 in Stoke Damerel, Devon, the daughter of William and Alice Susanna Pridham (nee Spry) who were married on the 20th September 1819 in Stoke Damerel
Timothy’s siblings were:
George Pridham baptised 9th August 1850 in Rock-Ferry, Cheshire
Arthur Welsh baptised 9th November 1851 in Rock-Ferry, Cheshire
Charles William baptised 6th March 1853 in Shirley by Southampton, Hampshire
In 1861 Timothy (3) was living in New Lane, Enfield, Middlesex with his father Arthur (43), a Ship and Insurance Broker, his mother Mary (35), his brothers George (10), Arthur (9) and two servants. Timothy’s brother Charles (8) was recorded living with his widowed grandmother Alice Susanna Pridham (65), a Fundholder, at 3 Osbourne Villas, Stoke Damerel, Devon.
In 1871 Timothy (13) was recorded as a Scholar at Marlborough College, Wiltshire (name recorded as Timothy Carles Owers on ancestry)
The 1881 census records Timothy (23) as a Commercial Clerk, living in New Lane, Enfield with his father Arthur (63) a General Merchant, his mother Mary (56) and two General Servants.
In 1891 Timothy (33) was living on his own means. He was recorded in the census for this year as a visitor at Bourne Hall, (possibly a hotel) Poole Road, Holdenhurst, Hampshire.
He “married” Kate in c1897 (no marriage for this couple found yet!)
The 1911 census records Timothy (53) as a Boarding House Keeper, at 17 Granville Place, Portman Square, London, with Kate (38), three servants and ten boarders.
Timothy died aged 59 on the 18th August 1917, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st August. (Abode at time of death, Holmbury, Essex St. Newbury)
