Walter Gordon Hilton 1885 - 1967
Walter was born on the 15th January 1885 in Hartley Witney, Hampshire, the 2nd son of Henry Hilton and Emma Jane (nee Head). This was Henry’s 3rd marriage. Walter was baptised on the 22nd February 1885 Yateley, Hampshire.

Between 1914-1918 Walter was listed in ‘Lives of The First World War’ as serving in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry as a Private and a Corporal. Soldier number 11554.

Walter received a letter from Downing Street dated May 1926 thanking him for his services as a Special Constable. The letter was signed by The Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.
On the 29th January 1936 Walter received a letter from the Chief Constables Office, Reading, Berkshire thanking all Officers and Constables of the Berks Constabulary and those Special Constables who were on duty on Tuesday 28th January 1936. This was for a thank you for his part in the funeral of H.M. King George V.
