Edith Emily Hazell
1888-1964
Edith Emily her family and early life:
Edith Emily was born on the 17th September 1888 in Newbury the daughter of Frederick and Emily Rawlings (nee Heath) who were married in 1885 (marriage registered in Southampton)
Her father Frederick was born 1865 in Newbury the son of Charles and Esther Rawlins (nee Blackwell) who were married in 1851 (marriage registered in Newbury). Frederick died aged 47 in 1912, he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th May
Her mother Emily was born in 1866 in Newbury the daughter of Henry and Charlotte Heath (nee Palmer) who were married in 1857 (marriage registered in Newbury). Emily died aged 86 in 1951, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road cemetery on the 8th March.
Frederick and Emily also had the following children:
Frederick Charles c1887 (died aged 11 months, buried in the NRC on the 19th December 1887)
William George 1890
Albert Charles 1892
Frederick c1895
Horace Edward 1898 (died aged 3, buried in the NRC on the 23rd July 1902)
In 1891 Edith (2) was recorded living in Hampton Road Newbury with her father Frederick (25) a Plasterer, her mother Emily (25), her sister Rose (5) and her brother William George (6 months).
By 1901 Edith (12) and her family had moved to 6 Shrewsbury Terrace, Newbury.
It was while living in Shrewsbury Terrace that Edith met her future husband Jesse Hazell, he was living at number 10 Shrewsbury Terrace.
Edith Emily in later life:
Jesse and Edith were married in 1906 (marriage registered in Newbury)
They had the following two children (both born in Newbury):
Jesse Frederick Albert 1907 (died aged 11 months, buried 16th January 1908 in the Newtown Road Cemetery)
William George 12th February 1909
In 1911 Jesse (23) was recorded as a House Painter, living at 12 Shrewsbury Terrace Newbury with Edith (23) and their son William George (2).
The 1939 Register records Jesse and Edith living at 12 Shrewsbury Terrace (off Buckingham Road) Newbury. Jesse was recorded as a Glazier and Decorator.
Jesse died aged 76 in 1964, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April.
Edith Emily died aged 76 on the 13th November 1964, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th November.
Probate: HAZELL Edith Emily of 12 Shrewsbury Terrace Buckingham Road Newbury Berkshire widow died 13th November 1964 at the Chest Hospital Rotherfield Peppard Oxfordshire Probate Oxford 10th December to William George Hazell technical officer. Effects: £2891
