Recorder's Notes Ada was born in Blackfriars, London. She is recorded as marrying widow, Marine Engineer, James John Boyt in 1895 in Deptford who had only been married for a few months before his first wife died. They had two daughters. There is also a record of James Boyt marrying Ada Jackson in 1925. This puzzle requires more research. No 1901 record can be found but James and Ada were living at 1, Livingstone Villas, Queens Rd, Newbury with 2 daughters in 1911, at 12 Newtown Rd in 1925 & 46 Bartholomew St in 1939. Ada Jessie was born on the 23rd August 1869 at 9, Marlborough Street, Christ Church, Surrey, the daughter of Henry Frederick Thomas and Hannah Maria Jackson (nee Grant) who were married in 1858 (marriage registered in Portsea, Hampshire)

Ada Jessie’s father Henry Frederick Thomas Jackson was a Printer and Compositor. He was born c1837 in Normandy, France, the son of Henry (born c1792 in St Kitts, West Indies, died 1877 in Alverstoke, Hampshire) and Eliza Barry Jackson (nee Abbott), born c1803 in Kings County Ireland, died 1856 in Portsea, Hampshire)) who were married on the 30th October 1824, at St Mary Newington, Surrey.

Her mother Hannah Maria (aka Maria) Grant was born c1837, in Islington Middlesex.

Henry Frederick Thomas and Hannah Maria also had the following children:

Laura Maria Amelia, born 20th December 1857 in Ryde, Isle of Wight (before her parents married? baptised 25th Nov. 1863 with her sister Eliza Florence (see below)

Henry William James, born c1860, in St George, Southwark, Surrey (died 1860, as William Henry James)

Henry Sydney Thomas born c1861, in St George, Southwark (died aged 2 in 1863, buried 27th Nov. at Victoria Park Cemetery, Hackney)

In 1861 Henry F. T. (22), Hannah M. Jackson (23) and their son Henry (3 months), were living in Friar Street, Borough Road, Southwark. Their daughter Laura (3) was recorded living at 1 Carlisle Road, Portsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire, with her grandfather Henry Jackson (62), a Retired Clerk, late India House and her aunts, Amelia Jackson (28), a Professor of French Language and Eliza (15) a Dressmaker’s Apprentice.

By 1871 Ada Jessie’s parents were living separately. Henry (35) was recorded as a Printer and Compositor, boarding at 8 Miles Cottages, Guildford, Surrey. Maria (36), was recorded as a Mantle Maker, living at 10 Victoria Place Lambeth, with her children, Laura (13), Lizza (6), Florence (4) and Ada (1 ½).

(George Keith was born on the 8th June 1870 in Plymouth, Devon, he was baptised on the 21st June 1870, at Holy Trinity, Plymouth, the son of George Keith (a Shipwright) and Louisa Martin Stewart (nee Rowe) who were married in 1865 in Plymouth).

Ada Jessie and George had two sons, George Keith, born 1890 (surname recorded as Stuart) and Leonard Walter, born 1891 (both births registered in Portsea Hampshire)

The 1891 census records George (21), as a Carpenter, living at 59, Grigg Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire, with Ada (21) and their son George (1).

By 1896 George and Ada Jessie had parted company.

George (30) and his son George (11) were recorded in the 1901 census still living in Portsmouth. George continued to live in Hampshire with his oldest son, until his death in 1915, aged 44.

Ada Jessie formed a relationship with widower, James John Boyt.

(James John Boyt (aka John) was born on the 28th November 1867 in Puddletown, Dorset, he was baptised on the 7th January 1868 in Athelhampton with Burleston, Dorset the son of John (a Farmer) and Anna Maria Boyt. James married Mary Lizzie Aveling Smith in 1894 and was widowed later the same year).

Ada Jessie and James had two daughters. Ada Mary, born in 1896 (birth registered in Greenwich) and Jessie Ruth born in 1899 (birth registered in Falmouth)

Ada Jessie (31) was recorded living at 19 Railway Cottages, Falmouth, Cornwall, with John (33), an Engine Fitter/Turner, her son Leonard (9), and her daughters Ada (4) and Jessie (2) (all surnames recorded as Bryd on ancestry) in the 1901 census.

The 1911 census records John (43) as an Engineer’s Turner, living at 1 Livingstone Villas, Queens Road, Newbury, with Ada (42) and their daughters Ada (15) and Jessie (2).

Electoral registers record Ada living at The Folly, Greenham, (1918-1921), 12 Madeira Place, Newtown Road, Newbury, (1925-1931), 60 Cheap Street, Newbury, (1933-1934), King’s Road in Newbury, (1936) and 46 Bartholomew Street, Newbury (1937-1938)

By 1921 Ada, aged 53 years 9 months, was living at 13 The Folly Greenham, Berkshire, with John, aged 53 years 7 months, who was working at Plenty & Son, Marine Engineers, as an Engine Turner. Their married daughter Ada Mary Hunter, aged 23 years 7 months and their grandson, Rex William Hunter, aged 1 year 7 months were also living with them.

James John Boyt and Ada Jessie M. Stewart married in 1925 in Southampton.

The 1939 register records Ada and James, a Marine Engineering Turner, living at 46, Bartholomew Street, Newbury.

Ada Jessie died aged 74 on the 18th May 1944, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th May.

James John died aged 81 on the 9th October 1949, he was laid to rest with Ada, on the 12th October.
