Tabitha was born on the 1st November 1867 in Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Silvanus and Celia Applegate (nee Waters), who were married in 1864 (marriage registered in Hungerford)

Tabitha’s father Silvanus was a Shoemaker, He was baptised on the 7th November 1834 in Andover, Hampshire, the son of Paul and Sarah Applegate (nee Oliver) who were married on the 28th February 1820 in Amport, Hampshire. Silvanus died aged 31 in 1868 (death registered in Hungerford)

Her mother Celia was born in 1840 in Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Rhoda Waters (nee Knapp) who were married in 1840 (marriage registered in Hungerford). Celia died aged 77 in 1918 (death registered in Hungerford)

Silvanus and Celia also had another daughter, Jadidah born in 1865 in Kintbury.

The 1871 census records Tabitha (3), living in Newbury Street, Kintbury, with her widowed mother Celia (30), her sister Jadidah (5), her grandparents Charles Waters (48), a Labourer, and Rhoda Waters (55) and her aunt Emma Waters (16).

Tabitha (13) was working as a General Servant in 1881, she was still living In Kintbury with her mother who was working as a Laundress, her sister Jadidah (15), who was working as a Pupil Teacher and her cousin, Charles May (2).

The 1891 census records Tabitha, aged 23, as a Parlour Maid, living in Backway, Speen, Berkshire

By 1901 Tabitha (33) was working as a Domestic Cook at Ashford House, Ashford, Staines, Middlesex, for Frederick Wright (55), a Draper (House Furnishings) and his children.

She married a widower, Charles Swindon in 1902 (marriage registered in Newbury)

Tabitha gave birth to a daughter, Minnie Alice in Newbury in 1904.

The 1911 census records Charles (61) as a House Painter, living at 3 Sarum Cottages, Enborne Road, Newbury, with Tabitha (43), their daughter Minnie (6) and a visitor, Arthur Fell (55).

Tabitha was widowed in 1918, Charles died aged 68, on the 4th December, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th December.

Tabitha and Minnie were still living in Enborne Road, Newbury, in 1921.

Electoral Registers record Tabitha living in 14 Enborne Road until at least 1936.

The 1939 Register records Tabitha as incapacitated, in the Newbury Workhouse.

She died aged 76 in the Emergency Hospital, Newbury, on the 23rd April in 1944 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th April.
