Transciption: | FANNY MASON DEATH OF MISS FANNY MASON The death took place on March 30th of Miss Fanny Mason, of 14 Chesterfield Road, Newbury. Miss Mason came of an old Newbury family, being the last surviving daughter of the late Mr. John Hawe Mason, J.P. Miss Mason, who was 83 years of age, had been in failing health for some time, but prior to her illness she was quite an active woman for her age. When well over 70, she flew by aeroplane to visit her niece in Jersey. She was one of a handful of women members who did most useful work in the old Newbury Board of Guardians, on which she served from 1919 until the Guardians were abolished in 1930. Miss Mason had a life-long connection with the Methodist Church in Northbrook-street. For many years she was the circuit secretary for Foreign Missions, which duties she carried out most thoroughly. She was also a member of the District Foreign Missions Committee, and of the local Quarterly Meeting. The funeral took place quietly on Saturday afternoon at the Newtown-road Cemetery, the interment being in the family vault. The first part of the service was held in the Cemetery Chapel, the following Methodist Ministers taking part: The Rev. Higson, the Rev. Haydn Wainwright and the Rev. Russell Potts. The family mourners were: Mr. Dennis Mason, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Adnams, Mrs. W.A. Ingram, Mrs. L.E. Yeomans, Mr. Peter Adnams, Mrs. Albert Butler and Mrs. Howell Roberts. There follows a long list of those present and another of wreaths sent. Newbury Weekly News 8 April 1943 Bk. 1917 p. 245 no. 11557 Buried 3 April 1943. |
