Ann Carly
Ann Carly
c1835-1861
Ann was born Essex she was baptised on the 7th June 1835 in Loughton Essex and was the daughter of George and Martha Smith. George was born c1809 in Stanford Rivers Essex and Martha was born c1809 in Aldershot Hampshire.
In 1841 George (30), Martha (30) and Anne (6) were living in London Road Loughton Essex and George was working as a Farmer. In the 1851 census Ann was recorded living with her parents and her brother George, in Bartholomew Street Newbury.
She married Cornelius Carly (born 22nd December 1835 Newington Surrey) in 1858

The 1861 census records Ann (26) and Cornelius (25) living with Ann’s parents and her brother George at 88 Bartholomew Street Newbury, Ann was recorded as a Milliner, Cornelius was recorded as a Baker (Journeyman), her father George was recorded as a Master Baker and her brother George (27) was recorded as a Fish Dealer.
Ann died of Phthisis aged 26 on the 11th November 1861.
Ann’s husband remarried in Newington in 1862 his 2nd wife was Henrietta Blackaler Rooks. Henrietta and Cornelius emigrated to Auckland New Zealand in 1863. Henrietta gave birth to twins on the voyage sadly all three died and were buried at sea. Cornelius remarried in 1864 his 3rd wife was Eliza Catherine Rooks (Henrietta’s sister) they had two children, Eliza Annie born 1865 and Ernest Edmund born 1870. Eliza and Cornelius both died in Auckland Eliza died on the 12th December 1900 and Cornelius died 26th January 1926.
Ann’s parents were recorded in both the 1871 and 1881 census living in Bartholomew Street, in 1871 George was recorded as a Baker and in 1881, a Fruiterer. By 1887 they had moved to Devon. Martha died aged 78 in 1887 and George died aged 86 in 1895.
