Charlotte was born in Newbury she was baptised on the 9th October 1835 in St Nicolas Church Newbury and was the daughter of John and Sarah Goddard (nee Burfoot) who were married on the 30th June 1822 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. John was born c1801 in Greenham and Sarah was born c1805 in Newbury.

John and Sarah also had the following children:

William 1838 (died aged 3 weeks)

Fanny 1839 (died aged 10 months in 1840 name recorded as Frances)

Lucy 1843

Henry 1845

John was recorded as a Gardener on Charlotte’s baptism record in 1835, a Gardener’s Labourer in 1841 and an Agricultural Labourer1851.

The family were recorded living in the City Newbury in 1841 and Bartholomew Street in 1851.

Charlotte’s father John died aged 56 in 1857, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th December.

Charlotte died in 1861 (aged recorded at death 24 on the GRO and 25 on the NBI) she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd February.

In 1861 Charlotte’s mother Sarah was working as an Agricultural Labourer and was back living in the City Newbury, her daughter Elizabeth (31), son Henry (16) and grandson George were also living with her.

The 1871 census records Sarah living in St Mary’s Almshouses Newbury. She died aged 66 in 1872 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st June.
