Mary Ann King

Mary Ann King

c1806-c1861

Mary Ann was born in Worcester Place London she was the daughter of Thomas and Grace King.

Mary’s father died aged 34 in 1811 whilst visiting his brother John and his family in Newbury. He was buried on the 7th May 1811. On the same day Thomas was buried Grace gave birth to a son who she named Thomas, he was baptised on the 1st June 1811 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

In c1815 Grace gave birth to a daughter, Sarah.

In the 1815 census of Newbury Grace (33) was recorded as a Meal-man living on the west side of Cheap Street Newbury with her children, Mary Ann (9), Thomas (4) and Sarah (an infant).

Grace was recorded in the 1830 Pigot’s Directory as a Corn Dealer in Cheap Street Newbury. She died aged 59 in 1840 in Newbury.

The 1841 census records Mary (25) and her sister Sarah (20) as Dressmakers, living in Cheap Street Newbury.

Mary Ann (44) and Sarah (35) were again recorded living in Cheap Street in 1851, Mary was recorded as a Grocer and Sarah was again recorded as a Dressmaker.

Mary Ann died aged 54 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th January 1861
