Death of the Rev. C. J. Taylor.

We regret to announce the death on Sunday afternoon, at the ripe age of 88 years, of the venerable vicar of Brimpton, the Rev. C. J. Taylor, B.A., who for the past 27 years has carried on the church’s work of his parish with steadfast zeal and devotion. He performed his duties as usual until a few months ago, when illness compelled him to relinquish the work he loved, and which he was always so anxious to carry on. His personality endeared him to his parishioners, many of whom have lost a true friend, whose shrewd judgment made his kindly advice doubly valuable to those who sought it.

The deceased gentleman always took a keen interest in the welfare of the teachers and school children, especially before the creation of county control, and his regular visits and cheerful words to individuals have lately been sorely missed. He was scholar of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He became a deacon in 1861 and a priest in 1862, coming to Brimpton in the diocese of Oxford as curate-in-charge in 1888. He was appointed its vicar in 1895.

He leaves a widow to mourn his loss. The funeral will take place at St. Peter’s Parish Church, Brimpton, to-day, at 3 o’clock.
