Transciption: | ANNE KING THE LATE MRS. J.G. KING The death occurred on Wednesday at Beedon House, Newbury, of Mrs. J. G. King in the eightieth year of her age. The deceased lady was the widow of Mr. John Goddard King, whose death took place in February 1889. Mr. King sprang from a family settled at Wootten near Abingdon, who were leading agriculturists in North Berks It was about 1841 that he entered upon Beedon Farm, his marriage occurring about this time, and Mr. and Mrs. King continued in residence there for the long period of 45 years. On retiring from active pursuits be came into Newbury to live, but was not long permitted to enjoy the retirement be had so well-earned, for in the course of two or three years he was called to his rest. Like her husband, Mrs. King had strong sympathies, and was of a generous disposition. During her lifetime she handed to the Newbury Hospital a sum of £300. But this by no means represented the extent of her charities, which were not only extended to personal needs but also to many benevolent societies and institutions. The health of Mrs King had been failing during the last twelve months, but it was not until about six weeks prior to her death that she was confined to her room. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, the first part of the service being at the Parish Church. and the latter part at the cemetery, where her remains were placed in the same grave as those of her husband. The Rector of Newbury and the Rev. Idé Mack took part in the service The mourners were: First carriage—Mrs. Heckworthy, Mitss Shillingford ; Mr. John King, Mr. Shillingford : second carriage—Mrs. Sillance, Miss King. Mr. Sillance. third carriage —Mr. Jarret, Mr. Hibberd ; fourth carriage--Dr. Douglas, Dr. Kerby, Mr. F. P. Brown ; fifth carriage, Mrs. Surrey, Mrs. Mitchell. Among those present in the church were Miss A. Francklyn. Mrs. W. G. Adey, Miss M. A Adey, Mr. Churchwarden Knight, &c. The coffin was covered with beautiful wreaths and crosses sent by …. a list follows. The coffin - panelled and of polished oak, with massive brass furniture - was inscribed: Anne King. Died August 30 1899 aged 80 years. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. George Wintle, undertaker, of Northbrook-street.
