FRIENDLY SOCIETY FUNERAL.— The death took place last Thursday of Frederick Mayo, at the age of 17. He took a prominent part in the recent entertainment given by the Victory Entertainers, and a day or two afterwards was found to be suffering from an abscess on the brain, which eventually proved fatal. Being a member of the Local Lodge of Good Templars, and also the Rechabites, members of those bodies attended the funeral. The first part of the service was conducted in the Parish Church by the Rev. J. A. Thomas, and the Rev. Idé Mack officiated at the graveside. Here the Templar's Burial Service was impressively read by Bro. Chapman. P. D.C.T., Bro. Gibbs, District Secretary, and Mrs Bishop, of Newbury. The Victory Entertainers were represented at the funeral by Messrs. B. Belcher and J. Maiden. A number of beautiful wreaths were sent. and included some from the employers' at the Studio, 42 Northbrook-street, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hopson, and one bearing the following inscription: “With deepest sympathy from the members of the Newbury Endeavour Lodge, I.O.G.T.," also the Victory Entertainers, “Though lost to sight to memory dear."
