ELIZABETH PEARS

A VETERAN SCHOOLMISTRESS

The death occurred on Saturday, of Miss Elizabeth Pears, who for many years was schoolmistress of Enbourne Parochial School during the rectorate of the late Rev. Charles Johnson. Obliged by advancing years to retire Miss Pears resided in Newbury, and was well known to residents in the Craven-road and thereabouts. She was seized on Saturday July 29th, with paralysis, being found lying on the ground in the Recreation meadow. She was conveyed to her home in Kennet-road, where she lay a week, and then passed away.

The funeral took place on Monday and the body was taken to the Parish Church, where she had been a regular worshipper and had spent many hours of quiet reposeful ease. The Rev. E. Ide Mack conducted the service, and at the conclusion the beautiful hymn of Charles Wesley was sung by the congreagtion, accompanied by the organ:

"Let saints on earth in concert sing,
With those whose work is done,
For all the servants of our king
In heaven and earth are one."

The rest of the service took place at the Cemetery, the Rev. J. A. Thomas officiating. Among those who were present at thechurch were: Miss Todd, Miss Calise, Miss Francklyn, Miss Bunny, Miss Randall, Mrs. John Stillman, Nurse Roche, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Parr, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory, Rev. J.A. Thomas and Mr..Edgar Stillman.
The funeral was carried out by Mr. Hannington.
