Recorder's Notes | Sarah Ann Swaite nee Sheppard, daughter of John, a tailor & Elizabeth of Old Newtown Road, Newbury, married William James Swaite in Newbury on 1868. They had 5 children. The Swaite family grew up in Bartholomew St where father, William James, was a Boot & shoe maker. They had 4 children, the youngest being Henry John (Harry) Swaite. Henry was born in no 47, Bartholomew St. Later the family moved opposite to 105, Bartholomew St. Henry became a Printer. William James is buried in the row behind in P(C)4. Transciption: | HENRY JOHN SWAITE ODDFELLOW’S FUNERAL —Yesterday the funeral took place of Bro. Henry John Swaite, son of Mr. W. J. Swaite, of Bartholomew-street, and a Past Grand of the Loyal Britons' Lodge of Oddfellows. The deceased was only 29 years of age, death being caused by consumption. The funeral service was held at the Primitive Methodist Church, and was attended by a deputation from the Lodge, the interment afterwards taking place at the cemetery.
