Transciption:	THE LATE REV. G. HOWE The funeral of the late Rev G. Howe, formerly pastor of the Newbury Baptist Church, tookplace on Saturday afternoon, at the Cemetery. The remains were brought from London and conveyed from the station shortly before two o'clock. Amongst those present to pay a last tribute to the memory of the deceased, were Rev. G. J. Knight, Mrs. J. J. Davies. Mr. J. Wyse, Mr. Beames, Mr. Bowden, Mr. and Mrs. E James, Mr. T. Nias., Miss Percy, Miss Tayler, Mrs Andrews, Mr. H. Hollands, Mrs. Burn, Mrs. French, Mrs. Wingrove, Miss Johnson, Miss Butler, Miss Freeman, Mr. Pocock, &c. The Rev. J. W Davies, pastor of the Lee Baptist Church, officiated and gave a short address by the graveside. He said that the deceased had held many pastorates, Newbury being the last. He was always kind and rejoiced in the success of his fellows. and never failed in encouragement. While expressing their sympathy with the bereaved they give gratitude to God, particularly for the work rendered by the departed in the early days of his ministry. His chief joy was to take a church that was low and work it up to a better position. Deceased was also a man of great firmness and persistency. His favourite hymns were "There is a fountain filled with blood", "Come thou fount of every blessing", and " Descend from Heaven Immortal Dove." Firmly believing in the efficacy of prayer, the last few weeks were spent almost entirely in prayer and meditation. The Saturday before their friend was the family circle. As evening approached he felt sadly, throughout Sunday it was a case merely lingering, and all the while he was in great pain, and uttering " Pity me, pity me, oh my Father." The hymn " Rock of Ages," having being sung the assembly dispersed. The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. J. Foster Howe (eldest son and daughter-in-law); Mr. G. C. Howe, and Mr 'T. C. Howe (sons), Miss Sarah Howe and Miss Alice Howe (daughters), Mr. G. C Howe, junior, (grandson), Miss Emily North, and Mr Robert Williams. Wreaths were sent by then follows a list of these. The inscription on the coffin plate was: Rev. GEORGE HOWE died 26th Feb., 1899 aged 83 years Messrs. A Jackson and Co. were the undertakers.
