ROBERT HENRY LONG

DEATH OF MR. R.H.LONG

By the death of Mr. R.H. Long of Northbrook-street, at the ripe age of 77, a link which former a connection with old Newbury has been severed. Mr. Long enjoys the distinction of having spent the whole of his life in his native town.; for many years he was foreman at the ironmongery business on the Bridge having been employed there before the establishment passed into the hands of the late Mr. Staples. In co-operation with members of his family, he conducted the glass and china warehouse in Northbrook-street, which bore his name.

For several years he had been in declining health, latterly confined entirely to his house. The end however, came somewhat suddenly on Thursday last, after two days severe illness.

His funeral took place on Monday afternoon at the cemetery, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. E. Ide Mack. The mourners were Mr. F. Long (son), and Miss L.Long, Misses H. Long and B. Long (daughters). A number of beautiful floral wreaths testified to the respect with which the memory of the deceased was held.
