Edith Barber

1898-1898

 

Arthur William Barber married Edith Palmer in 1898 in Newbury. Not long after they were married Edith gave birth to a daughter who they named Edith, sadly baby Edith died shortly after she was born and was laid to rest on the 21st April 1898 in the Newtown Road Cemetery.

Arthur & Edith had five more children (all born in Newbury):

William Henry Charles born 1900 died aged 18 in the Norfolk War Hospital

Cissy Elizabeth born 31st July 1902

Twins: Albert Stanley and Dorothy born 28th September 1906, both died 1906, both laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery

Elsie Mary born 23rd May 1912

In 1901 the family were recorded living at 3 Chestnut Court Newbury and Arthur was working as an Upholsterer’s Porter but by 1906 they were living at 2 Bartholomew Place Newbury.

 

In 1925 Arthur’s wife Edith (aged 49) died in Newbury and the following year Arthur married again, his second wife was a widow, Eleanor Wheeler (formerly Welch), they had four children: Arthur William born 1926, Ernest Noble born 1929, James Henry  born 1933 and Jean Margaret 1935.

Arthur William Barber died aged 89 in 1963 in Newbury.

Eleanor Barber died aged 90 in 1983 in Newbury.
