Edith Emily Underwood
1897-1897
Edith Emily was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Richard and Mary Ann Underwood (nee Lawrence) who were married in 1877 (marriage registered in Newbury)
Edith Emily died soon after she was born, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st March 1897.
Her father Richard was born c1852 in Woodspeen, Berkshire, the son of Isaac and Maria Underwood (nee Whale) who were married in 1848 (marriage registered in Newbury)
Her mother Mary Ann was born in 1857 in Greenham, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Susannah Lawrence (nee Mathews) who were married in 1850 in Brimpton, Berkshire.

In 1881 Richard (27) a Coal Carter, Mary (24) and their sons Richard (3) and William (11 months) were living in Greenham Street, Greenham, Berkshire.
The 1891 census records Richard (39) as a Coal Yard Labourer, living at 8 Deller’s Yard (off Shaw Road), Newbury with Mary (33) and their children, Alice, Rose, Mary and Agnes.
The 1901 census records Richard (50) as a General Farm Labourer lodging at a Common Lodging House in Pembroke Road Newbury with his wife Mary (45) and their children, Agnes (12), Alex (11) and Winifred (6).
By 1911 Richard was working as a Coal Porter, living at 2 Eau Claire Villas, Boundary Road, Newbury with Mary (53), their son-in-law Frederick Taylor (28), a Steam Roller Driver, their sons Richard (32), a Builder’s Labourer, Alexander William (19), a Builder’s Labourer, Richard’s brother Brice Underwood (39), a General Laboure and an Alfred Wickens a Brewer’s Stoker.
Richard died aged 67 in 1918 (death registered in Newbury)
Mary Ann died aged 74 in 1931 (death registered in Newbury)
