Transciption: | THE LATE MR. J.B. TURK
Death has removed another townsman in the person of Mr. John Burton Turk, who since the death of his father has carried on the old-established iron-foundry in Cheap-street. Turk's ploughs are well-known in the agricultural world and have enjoyed a reputation for efficiency, often standing high in the lists when ploughing matches were a recognised incident of agricultural life.
Mr. Turk a member of the Volunteer Company for many years, and his death at the comparatively early ageof 39 will be much regretted by his friends.
The funeral is on Saturday.

The articles below contain information about John Burton Turk.
Note The “Miss Goodyear” among the mourners is Gertrude Goodyear, the Great Grandmother. of David Ely. Mrs Turk (Maria, widow, nee Sheerman) is her mother, and John Burton Turk is her stepfather. Gertrude’s father was Alfred John Goodyear who ran the Carnarvon Arms in Whitway and died earlier in 1875.
See also the note of Thomas Patrick Goodyear Bennett, who was Gertrude’s son. In it he describes the blacksmiths run by the Turk family in the centre of Newbury. He writes “I have no record of what the Goodyears…were”. I don’t think he knew Maria had remarried – it seems likely he thought he weas descended from John Turk and wasn’t told that Maria had remarried.
