Theodosia Nash (Barrett) 1843 -1927
Thomas Nash (1846 – 1937)
Thomas was born 1846 in Aldermaston, the son of Thomas Nash & Caroline Norris. He was baptized 4 October 1846 at St Mary the Virgin in Aldermaston. His Nash ancestors had been living in Aldermaston for nearly two hundred years.
Theodosia Barrett was born 1843 in Aldbourne in Wiltshire. In the 1861 census Theodosia was living at Fair Oak in Kingsclere Woodlands & recorded as a house servant. She married Thomas in late 1866 in Newbury district.
In the 1871 census Thomas & Theodosia were living in Stratfield Mortimer with daughter Emma & Thomas was recorded as a carpenter & joiner. The family then seemed to move round Berkshire as in the 1881 census they were living at 47 Kings Road in Reading & in 1891 at Meadow View Cottage in Brightwell, with Thomas still a carpenter & joiner. In the 1901 census taken on 31 March they were living in Sandhurst with daughter Sarah Caroline (who is also buried in Newtown Road Cemetery) & Thomas was now a clerk of works for a joiner.
In the 1911 census Thomas & Theodosia were living by themselves in Donnington with Thomas now recorded as a builder's foreman. The house had six living rooms. The census records they had eight children of whom five were still alive & three had died.
Thomas & Theodosia were recorded in the electoral registers living at Hope Cottages in Old Newtown Road from 1919 to 1924. In 1926 they were recorded at 75 Old Newtown Road & Thomas was still living in this house in 1931 as a widower.
Theodosia died March 1927 & she was buried 23 March at Newtown Road Cemetery. At that time she was living at 75 Old Newtown Road.
Thomas died April 1937 aged 90 while living at 51 Enborne Grove & he was buried 8 April at Newtown Road Cemetery.
Thomas & Theodosia had a daughter Sarah Caroline who married John William Thompson. Both Sarah & John are buried in Newtown Road Cemetery & there is a separate document with further details of them.
