Naomi Hill (1843 — 1896)

Naomi Keep was born in 1843 in Leckhampstead, the daughter of George and Elizabeth, nee Chapman, Keep. Naomi was recorded with her parents and three sisters, Jane aged 9, Martha aged 4 and Emma aged 1 in the 1851 census living in Leckhampstead. Her father George was recorded as a labourer.
Ten years later in the 1861 census Naomi was recorded living as a servant at Pullrow Villa, Montague Place in Newbury, her occupation was general servant.
Naomi married George Radbourn in 1864 in Newbury district. George was born in Baydon in Wiltshire in 1839 and in the 1861 census was a journeyman blacksmith. Naomi and George had two daughters both born in Leckhampstead Sarah Jane born in 1864 and Ida Effie in 1868. Sadly, George died 14 May 1869 aged 30 and was buried on 19 May 1869 at St James in Leckhampstead.

In the 1871 census Naomi and her two daughters and a lodger were living in Leckhampstead, Naomi was recorded as a housewife.
Naomi remarried on 23 December 1871 at St James in Leckhampstead to Thomas Joseph Hill. At the time of the marriage Naomi was recorded as a servant living in the village. Thomas was born circa 1845 in Leckhampstead and a labourer when he married.

In the 1881 census Thomas and Naomi with Naomi's daughter Sarah Radbourn and two sons of their own Ernest aged 8 and Leonard aged 6 were living in Leckhampstead. Thomas was recorded as an agricultural labourer.
Thomas died in 1882 but no burial record has been found for him so far. He was probably buried at St James in Leckhampstead as there is a gap in the burial records between October 1880 and September 1883.
Naomi was living at 5 Guilders Square in Speen in the 1891 census with her daughter Sarah Radbourn aged 26, son Leonard Hill aged 16 and daughter Mary Hill aged 9. Naomi and Sarah were recorded as laundresses and Leonard as a grocer's porter.

Naomi died 19 January 1896 aged 51 was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 23 January 1896.
The Newbury Weekly News edition dated 18 January 1900 contained an "In Memoriam" notice for Naomi which read as below.

In loving memory of our dear mother NAOMI HILL, who passed away January 19th 1896. For ever with the lord.
